Settings

You can use these "Settings" options to customize your email to suit your needs.

GENERAL

Time Zone
Use this setting to select or change your time zone. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

MESSAGES

Preferences
Use this setting to choose how your email messages are displayed and handled. Using this feature should be self-explanatory. NOTE: When collecting email addresses from your outgoing mail automatically, the system only collects full email addresses that contain a domain. (For example, the system stores the address john_doe@telconorth.com but not the address mary_doe.)

Signature
Create your own signature for your email messages, and choose whether or not to include this automatically in all messages. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

Vacation Message
Going on holiday? Have your mail forwarded and set up an autoreply message. In the "Message Rules" section, you can choose from the following options:

  1. "Do not activate vacation message" – turns off the autoreply message function

  2. "Reply every time" – sends the autoreply message each time a message is received

  3. "Reply every time with original message appended" – sends the autoreply message each time a message is received and attaches the original message

  4. "Reply once to each sender" – sends the autoreply message the first time a message is received from a particular email address and ignores subsequent messages from the same address

Message Filters
Use this setting to create filters which automatically sort your incoming mail into folders. You may also create filters that forward messages to other accounts. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

Forwarding
Use this setting to forward your messages to one or more addresses. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

External Email
You can use Webmail to retrieve messages from your other email accounts (POP and IMAP) and have these delivered to specific folders. To set up an account, click "New Email Source" and fill in the form.
NOTE: For each email account type, the default port number is automatically configured. To specify a different port number, click "Show Server Options...". Click the "Testing" checkbox to ensure that the settings work. Click "OK". Click "Save Changes". The account is set up (you will see an error message if testing fails). To retrieve messages sent to this account, go to the Inbox and click "Get External Mail".

Return Receipts
You can use this setting to choose whether to you wish to receive an email confirmation ("return receipt") that a message you have sent was received by the addressee. You can also choose how to handle requests for return receipts on incoming email. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

Junk Mail
Junk mail or "spam" (unsolicited bulk email) can have a serious impact on your internet experience. This email service therefore includes an automatic anti-spam program. You can use this setting to switch anti-spam on or off, and to change how spam messages are handled. To help improve the anti-spam program, you can choose to inform us of any unsolicited bulk email which is not automatically detected, by opening or selecting any message and clicking "Spam". You can also choose to inform us of any messages which the program wrongly marked as spam. You can do this by opening or selecting any message in the "Spam" folder or marked as "Spam" and clicking "Mark as Not Spam".

Privacy
Messages can sometimes contain images that are used to notify the sender that your email address is valid, which may increase the amount of junk mail you receive. You can use this setting to allow or block external images when viewing HTML messages (images received as attachments will be unaffected). Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

Antivirus Controls
Opening emails which contain or link to viruses can have a serious impact on your computer. This email service therefore includes an automatic anti-virus program. You can use this setting to switch anti-virus on or off. Using this feature should be self-explanatory.

Delete All Entries
This setting will delete all contacts from your personal addresses. Contacts will only be deleted after you click "OK". Before doing this, you may want to create a backup by exporting your contacts (see the "Import and Export contacts" section of "Addresses" in Webmail Help).
